Proverbs 29:26 (NIV) Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the Lord that one gets justice.

It’s good to know people in high places. When you get in any type of trouble, people in high places can help you...or not. There are two problems with that thought. The first problem is that there is no guarantee that they will help you. The second problem is that the vast majority of people don’t know anyone in high places. We always think that if we can just get to someone who has some kind of pull or authority, we can be helped out of our trouble, but have you ever tried to get in touch with your congressman about some matter that is important to you? You may get a letter back, but the chances of getting anything resolved is slim. That causes you to try to think of anything that you can do or anyone else that you can run to for help with your situation. Usually, it’s anyone except the One who really has all power and who happens to love you...your Heavenly Father.

When Jesus ascended to heaven after spending forty days with the twelve disciples and others, He promised to be with them (and with us) always. He had also taught them that they would be able to ask anything in His name and the Father would hear and answer their petition. When I face any kind of trouble, I want to go to the highest authority that I have access to. I don’t know a lot of important people, but I do know people who know people. But one of the biggest lessons that I have learned during my time on earth is that nothing comes close to being able to go to the Creator of the entire universe and the One who made me. The breath that I happen to have in my lungs is the breath that He breathed into me when He created me and gave me life. Because He made me, He cares for me and He listens to my cries for help. I can cut through all of the red tape of trying to reach someone with any kind of influence and authority and go directly to Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He sits on His throne and He reigns supreme over all powers, rulers and authorities. There is no one higher that you can appeal to and He has made Himself accessible to us for whatever it is that we need.

It’s a sad situation that everyone doesn’t have a relationship with Jesus. If you are reading this, you probably do have a relationship with Him. But are you one of the people that goes everywhere else and to everyone else without going to the One who can do far more for you than anyone else? Don’t miss out on the great gift of access to the throne of grace that Jesus has given to you. It’s from Him that all good things flow. He is the right one to go to!

P.S. If you are reading this and you don’t have a relationship with Jesus, all you need to do is ask Him to forgive you of your sins and to be Lord of your life. Surrender your life to Him and then you’ll have access to the highest power and authority that there is!
