Romans 14:8 (NIV) If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
One of the things about being a follower of Christ that many Christians don’t fully realize is that when you repent and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and you receive Him into your heart and life, you then belong to Him...completely. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us that we do not belong to ourselves because we were bought at a price. That means that the Lord has the say in our lives. His will is what we should look to be doing.
After being saved, it should dawn on us that we belong to the Lord Jesus in three different ways and each way can stand on its own. First, you belong to Jesus by creation. He created you. He made you. When you make something, whatever you make or create belongs to you. In the same way, because you are God’s creation, you are His and He has the right to do whatever He wants with whatever He created. The good news is that He is ever-loving, kind, compassionate and longsuffering. What He wants to do is to be gracious to you and to bless you. Next, you belong to Him through redemption. Jesus redeemed you. That means that something of value was exchanged for you. The something of value that was exchanged for you was the life of Jesus Himself. There is not a higher price that could have been paid. So along with Jesus owning you by creation, He also owns you through the purchase that He made. Finally, you belong to Jesus through surrender. When you received Jesus into your heart, what you actually did was surrender your life to Him. You were doing your own thing, being influenced by the world and the devil, but then one day your eyes were opened and you saw the great salvation that was offered to you. Before that, there was no true meaning to your life. But then you saw where the meaning of life was and it was in a relationship with your Creator and you surrendered your life to Him.
You and I belong totally to Jesus through creation, redemption and surrender. Let’s be reminded of that every day of our lives so that we will live a life worthy of the calling that He placed on our lives and so that we will live to please the one who we belong to. There is no greater way to live and no greater One to have as our Lord, our Master, our Savior and our Friend!

That was beautifully expressed. Thank you, Joey. I have found that recognizing that we belong to Him gives us a sense of true freedom. We can be assured that He who began a good work in us is able to complete it. All we have to do is cooperate with Holy Spirit, allowing Him to lead us.
