Hebrews 4:16 (ESV) Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

One of the awesome things about being a child of God is that we can have fellowship with Him at all times. He told us in His Word that He would never leave us (Hebrews 13:5). Because He is always with us, we do not have to be afraid about anything. The access that we have is because of what Jesus did on the cross. By becoming the ultimate sacrifice and shedding His blood to pay the penalty for our sins, He removed the chasm that there was between us and God. Sin separates us no more from the presence of our Heavenly Father and now we can dwell with Him. We can now go into the Most Holy Place, which is where the presence of God resides. As part of that amazing truth, we also have access to God's throne of grace. The Word of God tells us that not only can we draw near to it, but that we can draw near to it with confidence.

That brings to mind the relationship that I had with my father. No matter where he was in the house or what he was doing, I never had any second thoughts about approaching him. Even if he was in an important meeting with someone in a room in our house, I would come into his presence anyway, especially if I needed him and even more so if I desperately needed him. I was able to do that on the basis of the fact that I was his son. I also knew that he loved me and that he always welcomed my presence. If that's how my earthly father (who was a sinner saved by grace) dealt with me, how much more confident should we be with our God, who is the perfect picture of love, mercy and grace? It is so awesome to know that we can approach God's throne of grace at any time and for any reason.

But there is one more thought to consider. If we are not only allowed but invited to come to our Heavenly Father's throne of grace, why not just stay there? Who says we have to leave? I have learned to be conscious of the Lord's presence in my life and to live life as if He is always with me because He is always with me. He never leaves. It's just that many Christians live their lives as if He is not with them. They are not thinking about the Lord during the day and only think about Him when they pray for a meal or when they are in trouble. But what if we were always conscious of Him? What if instead of drawing near to the throne of grace to receive mercy and grace when we need it, we lived at the throne of grace? The throne of grace is where the Lord resides because He reigns above everything at all times. So wouldn't it be better to be near and around that throne always, so that whatever happens, good or bad, you are right there in the presence of God to either thank Him or to ask Him for help? We should be so thankful that we can draw near to that throne, but we should be so eager to remain there with the Lord always. It's the best, the safest and the most fruitful place to be. Learn to live at the Father's throne of grace always.
