Psalm 91:5-6 (NIV) You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

We are living in a time where most of the people in this world are living in fear. Everyone is being conditioned to be fearful, as all the news and reports seem to be bad news that gets worse every day. Unfortunately, a lot of Christians have fallen into the fear trap along with everyone else. Add to that fear the mayhem caused by all the hatred and vitriol exhibited on a daily basis, starting with the people who are running the governments all over the world. Politicians have given up protocol and are verbally attacking each other and even encouraging others to attack their opponents. That just increases the fear factor of everyone who is experiencing these dark times. As we know, when people are fearful, they are easy to control. Fear causes people to willingly give up some of their freedoms in the hopes that the people taking away their freedoms will protect them from harm and danger.

This doesn't only apply to worldly affairs. It's the same in the spiritual realm. Christians who go along with the narrative of fear and give up the freedom that Jesus died to give them become controlled by that fear and are sucked into the pattern of the world, which is ruled by Satan. They are just as afraid of sickness, disease, turmoil, and strife as people who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. They look no different than anyone else. That's why the Lord admonishes us over and over in scripture to fear not, to not be afraid because to do so is to forget that God is bigger than the object of your fear. Fear is paralyzing and leaves you open to the attack of the enemy. If you are paralyzed you can’t move to the safety of your Strong Tower, which is Jesus.

As we get ready to move forward into a brand-new year, we must get over our fear if we are going to be victorious. It seems like there will always be a virus or some new pestilence around, along with people telling you that you shouldn't go anywhere because you may die. But remember this: God is sovereign. He knows the beginning and the ending of your days. Your days are already numbered, and no virus or pestilence is going to cut short the days that God has allotted to you on the earth. In addition to this, if you do get sick, He is your Healer. What a lot of believers have forgotten throughout all of this is that it is not masks or vaccines that ultimately keep us safe, but it is the Lord's divine protection that does. Launch into this new year proclaiming that you will not fear the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness or the plague that destroys at midday. You are a child of God, and you have Almighty God watching over you! Walk into the new year with great confidence, trusting in the God who saved you because He has promised to keep you until you are safely home with Him. Have a Joyful and Blessed New Year!
