Numbers 7:89 (NLT) Whenever Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—that rests on the Ark of the Covenant. The Lord spoke to him from there.

Moses had an incredible life with the God of all creation. First, the Lord appeared to him in a burning bush and called him out of Midian to be His spokesman and to be used to deliver God's people out of bondage in Egypt. God continually spoke to Moses and gave him direction throughout all of the ordeals with Pharaoh who was stubborn and was refusing to let the people go. Finally, when Pharaoh relented because of the plague of death to all the first-born of Egypt, Moses led the people out of Egypt. That began a brand new journey, but one that necessitated Moses staying in constant communication with the Lord for direction and for supply for that vast horde of people that He delivered from Egypt. In the verse above, we read that EVERY TIME that he went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, the Lord would speak with him. What an awesome relationship and what an awesome experience! But was that just for Moses?

I believe that we, as followers of Christ, many times do not hear the voice of the Lord like Moses did for a number of reasons. First, we don't seek Him like Moses did. Moses was desperate. He had to hear from God! There was no plan B to be had. It was God or bust! But we have options, don't we? We are not in a physical desert (although perhaps, we are in a spiritual desert) among over a million people where the only supply that we could get would be from God Himself. Second, we don't go to the places that we need to go to hear from God. Moses would go into the Tabernacle or the tent of meeting. We need to go to our quiet place to hear from God. Another place is the Word of God. Many do not treasure their time in the Word, if they spend any time in the scriptures at all. There is not a lot of meditating on the Word going on in many Christians' lives. Thirdly, we are not listening properly to the voice of the Lord. He speaks to us in the deep recesses of our heart, spirit and soul. We need to recognize His voice and that comes by spending much time with Him and being caught up with the Lord Jesus all day long, every day.

Moses was caught up with God every day. He had to be, yes, but he learned to long to be just for the beauty of God's presence. His face would shine with the brightness of the glory of God from being there and that same presence is available to all who seek the Lord diligently. We can meet with God every day and throughout our day and we can expect to hear from Him every time. Let's not fail to seek after a true relationship with Jesus through prayer, the Word and through being filled with the Holy Spirit so that we, like Moses, will hear God's voice every time that we go into our tabernacle.
