1 Peter 2:6 (NIV) For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
As we all take a look back on our lives, there are many things that we have done and many decisions that we have made that we have lived to regret. If there were a way that we could go back and do it differently, I’m sure that mostly everyone would. But as we all know, we cannot change what has been. All of the things that we have done wrong and all of the bad decisions that we have made can be traced back to one thing: not placing full control of our lives into the hands of Jesus.
Obviously, when you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, your life cannot be in His control. But what about us as the people of God? What about those of us that are children of God? Why is it that there are so few Christians that fully surrender to the Lord? Why are there still so many that control their own lives? It’s because of a lack of trust. They don’t trust that God knows better than they do about what is best for their lives. It’s a scary thing to give up control of your life to someone else. It means that you must let go of your own dreams and plans for your life. It means someone else gets to decide your future. That someone is God. As human beings, it is difficult to get to that level of trust in anyone, but it shouldn’t be that way when it comes to our Savior. It is that way with many because they don’t take the time to get to know Him to the point of being absolutely sure that He loves them and that He has the very best intentions for their lives. Even if the path that He chooses has difficulties and challenges included, it will always be the best path for your life here on earth. It also prepares you for eternity in heaven because with God in control of your life, you transform day by day to become more and more like Jesus.
Out of all the regrets that I’ve had in my life, the one thing I have never regretted is having put my trust in Jesus. Trusting in Jesus leads to abundant living, which includes a life free from anxiety and worry and a peace that remains through all difficulties and trials. Trusting in Jesus is the best and safest thing that you can do for a successful journey here on earth. When you’ve paid the price enough for going your own way, you learn to be more leery about trusting yourself than about putting your trust in God. You begin to desire His ways above your own because you learn about His faithfulness and about His extreme love for you. Trust in Jesus for your life always. You will never regret that you did and you will never be put to shame.
