Isaiah 35:8 (NIV) And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way.

In Isaiah chapter thirty-five, Isaiah prophesied about a time when we would see the glory of the Lord and the majesty of His splendor. He talked about a time when the Lord will come to rescue and save us. Then he talked about a highway that will be called the Way of Holiness. We can rejoice because that day is here! The Lord has already come and He is mighty to save!

Although God has always watched over His people and has always saved and rescued them, it was not deliverance once and for all. It was certainly Him doing mighty works on behalf of His children, but it didn’t have the eternal work of salvation attached to it. Now, because of what Jesus did on the cross, we are truly saved both now and forevermore. And that’s not all. Not only are we saved from sin and death, but we now have the incredible privilege of having the Holy Spirit living in us to do the work that the law could not do nor was assigned to do. The law of God, while holy and righteous, did not have the ability to transform us from the inside out. The children of God could only attempt to obey it with their own efforts, which proved impossible. The Lord knew all of this and He also knew what He would ultimately do about it. He had it planned all along.

Now, the highway called the Way of Holiness but that was untraveled by anyone because of our sin is open for us to travel on because of what Jesus did. He took all our sins upon Himself to cleanse us completely, and then sent His Holy Spirit to live in us to keep us holy and righteous so that we would be able to continue our journey unhindered by falling into sin again. That highway is an amazing road that leads to a deeper love and knowledge of our God, as well as a continual transformation that makes us more and more like Jesus. With God, it’s not just His way or the highway, but instead is His way AND the highway of holiness that we can now freely travel on!
