Genesis 3:6-7 (NIV) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

We all know the tragic story of Adam and Eve. They were living in the Garden of Eden, an earthly paradise, with God. Everything was perfect. Nothing was missing from their lives. They had gorgeous surroundings, they had plenty of food to eat, they had each other, and they were living in perfect fellowship and harmony with God. But as we know, the serpent (Satan) lied to Eve and caused her to desire what the Lord had forbidden her and Adam to have. They had every other tree in the garden to eat of but Satan was crafty enough to plant the thought that if she just took one bite of the fruit of the forbidden tree, she would be like God. She took the bite and so did Adam and instead of what Satan said would happen, disaster struck and has been with us ever since. That disaster was an internal one. It was a disaster of soul. The soul now could never be at peace or rest because it would be separated from God due to sin.

The history of the world has not been pretty since then...except for one moment in time when God came to the earth physically, taking on human flesh, so that He could die in our place for our sins. Jesus bridged the gap between us and God the Father. Think about this for a few moments: that great chasm that had separated Adam and Eve and all of mankind from our Creator was due to just one bite. Disaster is always just one bite away. That's why Satan doesn't give up. He knows that if he can just get you to take one bite out of sin, he can cause a world of hurt for you and for everyone that you are connected with by default. That's why God hates sin so much. It's because of the hurt and pain it causes the people that He loves and that He created. Those of us that follow Christ can get fooled into thinking that just one bite wouldn't do much harm and that we can always recover from it. But while God's mercy and grace are endless and He forgives us when we repent, the consequences of that one bite remain and we will have to deal with them with God's help. So don't even think of taking a little bite, not even a little nip of sin. Moreover, don't even look in the direction of that thing that Satan and the world is offering you. You have so much that God has given to you. Don't ever put it at risk for just one bite.
