Deuteronomy 33:27 (NLT) The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, ‘Destroy them!’

Everyone needs a place of refuge. A refuge is a place of protection from danger and trouble and is also a place of escape. Many people consider their home to be a refuge. It's where you can get away from the strife of work, from the dangers that lurk outside and from the people that don't have your best interests at heart. But sometimes, even your home becomes a place of strife when trouble comes knocking at your door. It may be relationship problems within the family, sickness that has come upon one of the family members, financial problems that have made it difficult to keep up with the bills of the home, etc. That's why there is nothing that comes close to having God as our refuge.

The Lord is not only our place of safety from danger but is also our source of help when we are in trouble and our hiding place of escape. When you have God as your refuge, there is never any doubt that He will be available when you need Him and that He will help you when you need it. He doesn't change, so there is never a time when you go to your refuge that He will be different towards you or unavailable. Your place of refuge in God cannot be breached and no one can harm you there. If you just need a breather from the chaos of the world, He is the perfect one to go to because He is Jehovah Shalom, which means the Lord is Peace. You are perfectly safe there and when you just barely make it into the refuge that He is for you because you have run out of strength, He catches you with His everlasting arms and supports you until you can stand again.

The best part of God being our refuge is that He will always be there. He will not leave you and He will not abandon you. Since He is the eternal God, He will be eternally there as your refuge. As a matter of fact, He is the one thing and the only one that you can count on and trust in that will ALWAYS be there to love and protect you until you are safely home with Him in heaven. There's only one thing that is your part to do to take advantage of this most awesome and miraculous refuge that exists. The one thing that you have to do is to run into that refuge when danger or trouble comes. But even better than that is to live your life in that refuge so that no matter what happens in life, you are eternally safe and secure in the protective arms of your Lord and Savior. Our Eternal Refuge is our Rock and our Foundation and with Him, we cannot and will not be moved!
