Romans 3:22-24 (NLT) We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

If you have lived any considerable amount of time on this planet, you may have noticed that in reality, everyone is guilty of doing bad things. Everyone has a "secret closet" that they don't want anyone to look into because of the shame that they would experience from having anyone see what they have done. Sometimes, because of our odious sinful nature, we may have judged people guilty for certain things that we ourselves have done in our past. We sometimes point the finger of accusation at others while we may have been guilty of something worse than they did.

With that in mind, let's imagine a courtroom scenario. The judge, the lawyers, the prosecutor, the officers and clerks, the jurors, and the person accused of wrongdoing are all there. In a court of law in this country, the accused person sits before a jury while the prosecutor tries his/her best to prove guilt while the lawyer for the accused tries to prove their innocence. While that is going on, there is another courtroom. That one is in heaven and in that court, everyone including the judge, the lawyer, the prosecutor, the officers and clerks and all the jurors stand guilty before God. So in God's view, this is a case of the guilty judging a person who may be guilty of the offense that has been committed, but who also already stands guilty before Him. Even though in a court of law you are innocent until proven guilty, in God's court we all stand guilty before Him.

But while in a court of law a person who is accused of a crime has to be defended so that they will not be judged guilty, in God's court we come in guilty while God declares us innocent! While in a court of law we are innocent until proven guilty, in God's court we are innocent while proven guilty! The crimes (sins) that we are guilty of have been assigned to another, Jesus. The punishment for our crimes was meted out on Him. The penalty due for all our sins was paid for in blood...the blood of the Lamb. All we need to do is to put our faith in Jesus. That act alone erases everything that we have done wrong and gives each of us a brand-new start as a totally different person (2 Corinthians 5:17). Don't ever allow the enemy of your soul to accuse you. While you once were guilty, you have been declared innocent and the verdict has been sealed in heaven. What a great salvation and what a wonderful Lord and Savior we have in Jesus! Let's live our lives in the light of our salvation so that we can bring glory and honor to the one that has redeemed us and declared us innocent! All praises be to His matchless Name!
