Galatians 5:25 (NLT) Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

One of the things that you learn sooner or later as a follower of Christ is that it's extremely beneficial to be led by God. The way to be led by Him is to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, known as the third person of the Trinity, is simply the Spirt of God. The Holy Spirit is the One who indwells us when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior into our lives. He is also the One who baptizes us to endue us with power to live holy lives. Without the Holy Spirit empowering us and leading us, we will go our own way. Many believers live their lives making their own decisions, hoping for the best. But that is so perilous and totally unnecessary. What if you were trying to get to a specific destination and you just hop in your car and begin to drive...without having any clue about where you are going? That's how it is when we don't allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit. Our destination is to become more like Jesus every day and we will never get close if we are not constantly following the Spirit's leading.

Notice also that living by the Spirit is defined by following His lead in every part of our lives. Some of us allow the Lord to lead us in some areas while we reserve other areas of our lives for ourselves. Those areas that we keep from the Spirit's leading will suffer the consequences of going forward blindly. Our aim should be total surrender to God's will and leading in our lives. There's an awesome reason to do so: His will and His leading are perfect. He doesn't make mistakes and He knows the way perfectly. When you think of it that way, why would any of us roll the dice and lead ourselves when we can put our lives in the hands of the One who redeemed us and loves us?  How do you follow His lead, you may ask? By living obedient to His Word. When you heart is prone to obedience because you have cultivated intimacy with Jesus through prayer, His Word and with the fellowship of other believers, you will find yourself in His will and being led in every area of your life by the Holy Spirit. So follow the Spirit! He knows where He is going and where you need to go!
