Isaiah 64:4 (NLT) For since the world began, no ear has heardand no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him!

No one likes to wait...for anything. It's always been that way,but the more advanced we get in our society, the less patience we have for waiting. Before phones became mobile, you had to wait for someone to get home so that you could speak to them. If they weren't home, you couldn't even leave a message because answering machines weren't around yet. Before the idea of credit cards came into play, people had to wait to have enough money to buy things. If you really wanted something badly enough, you would put it on lay-away, which meant that the store would put it aside and you would pay it off slowly until the full price was paid. It was only then that you could take the item home with you. If you wanted to warm up some food, you would have to do it on the stove and wait a while for it to be heated up sufficiently where as now, all you need is about thirty seconds in the microwave and it's all done. We hate waiting. We love everything to be instant. That's what makes it so challenging to wait on God.

If you have been a Christian for any significant amount of time, you have probably learned by now that you can't rush God. You also cannot receive what you need from God if you are in a hurry. When you pray, you have to be ready to wait until God sends the answer. When you get in trouble, you may have to wait a while until God delivers you. Martha and Mary had to learn that when they sent word to Jesus that their brother, Lazarus, was sick. They waited, but Jesus did not show up in time. Lazarus died and Martha and Mary were upset about it. But in this story, we get a glimpse of what God is up to many times. Jesus wanted to show people the extent of the miracle-working power of God so that they would believe in Him and therefore be saved. That would not be able to have been accomplished if He had just simply healed Lazarus before he died. To put it even more simply, God's purposes are way beyond what we can imagine. When we go to God for something, all we care about is getting that thing taken care of by God. We aren't thinking about anyone else or how it fits into the grander scale of life. God does think about it, and He knows that waiting for Him is not only best for us but achieves things in us that instant gratification would never do. It keeps us connected to Him as we keep going to Him for an answer. While we are waiting, God is working in us and working on our behalfat the same time. While we wait, God is setting things up in such a way that will bring glory and honor to His Name while giving you what you need at the moment that you really need it but in a way that you didn't expect. He does it in such an awesome and miraculous way that it touches your life in way that changes you forever. It goes beyond what you were asking for and straight to what was really needed for your life.

There is no god like God. There is no one that works the way that He does. He absolutely stuns us with the way that He works things out. All we have to do is wait for Him. There never has been anyone who has truly waited on God that was sorry that they did. He is faithful and He does so much more than we can ask or even imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Don't waste time by not waiting on God. It's in the waiting that He will show you more than you ever thought possible.
