Luke 1:37 (ESV) For nothing will be impossible with God.

When we want to declare that we believe that God will move on our behalf or on behalf of someone else through a miracle, we often say, "Nothing is impossible with God!" We say that and we want to believe it and when we persevere, the Lord gives us the faith that we need to believe that God will accomplish what is not possible for us because it's possible with Him. But it is good to look at the context of this verse that we often quote, because when we do, we can build our faith even more. This verse is attached to the story of when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to let her know that she had been chosen to conceive and bear the promised Messiah, the Son of God. That's when Mary asked Gabriel how that would be possible because she was a virgin. "How can this be?" she asked. That's when Gabriel told her that it would be through the power of the Holy Spirit coming upon her and the power of God would overshadow her to make it happen. In other words, God would do what was not humanly possible.

Our Savior, Jesus, came into this world through impossible means. No one in the history of the world has even been born without a man and a woman coming together in the act of love. No virgin has ever gotten pregnant by herself. It defies all logic and science for a baby be conceived in a virgin woman without the participation of a man. In fact, this was the order that the Lord Himself had put in place since the very first humans were created. But God doesn't need to follow rules, natural laws, science or logic since it was He who created everything. This is our Creator God, the One who spoke things into existence, and it was His messenger, Gabriel, who was proclaiming to Mary what would happen to her, since he knew that what God has spoken would certainly come to pass.

It's good for us to know that it was after this greatest miracle and revelation was made known to Mary that these words were spoken, because if God Himself could come into our world through being conceived in a virgin girl to be born just like we are in the form of a baby, then what can we face in this life that He cannot deal with? What could ever perplex or confuse Him? What situation or circumstance could you name that would be impossible for God to do? Nothing, of course! So, the next time that you have a God-sized problem, take heart because you have a God-sized God that can more than handle it. If the plan of salvation to save the world came through totally impossible means, then you can take heart that you are safe in God's hands with whatever impossible situation you may face. He is able to handle it and He is faithful to save you through impossible means.
