Jeremiah 14:22 (NLT) Can any of the worthless foreign gods send us rain? Does it fall from the sky by itself? No, you are the one, O Lord our God! Only you can do such things. So we will wait for you to help us.

The people of Judah were following in the footsteps of their kinsman from Israel (the ten northern ten tribes), even though they saw that their sin led them into exile. Even after seeing what happen to the northern kingdom, they kept on sinning and worshipping other gods anyway, ignoring all of the prophets' warnings, including those of Jeremiah. But Jeremiah continued to pray and plead for mercy on behalf of the people. In one prayer, He prayed and acknowledged that even rain, which many take for granted as something that just happens on its own, comes from God because He is the one who sends it. Jeremiah surmised that since God is the one who is in control of everything, He is the only one to turn to for help.

I believe that many people today are as ignorant of God's sovereignty and control over everything concerning the earth as the people of Judah were back in the days of Jeremiah. Only Jeremiah knew who God is and how He is Master over all of His creation. In today's world, even God's people don't think about God in all things. For example, when a man goes out every day to go to work, he feels a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day for what he achieved. He never stops to think that it was the Lord who gave him the health and the strength to work, along with the skills and abilities needed for the job. In his mind, the usual thinking is that he was responsible for all of it. This world is held together by Christ Jesus Himself. Everything, including our lives, is held together by Him (Colossians 1:17). That means that even the fact that you and I woke up this morning is due to the fact that God willed it to be so. Even the breath in our lungs belongs to Him.

It's good to acknowledge our Creator, our Lord and our Abba Father as the giver and sustainer of our lives and as the one who provides everything that we need for our journey here on earth. Doing that keeps our minds focused on Him and on things above as scripture admonishes us to do for victory our lives (Colossians 3:1-2). It also draws your heart closer to God and grows the love that you have for Him. It is living with the awareness of what the truth is, and that is that God is on His throne and in control and because He is, it is well with our souls. Praise the Lord that He is the one that sends the rain and every other blessing that He gives to those that love Him and acknowledge Him as Lord of all! It is good to know that so that you won't waste your time running to anyone other than Him when you need help.
