Ephesians 1:17 (NIV) I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

One of the many wonderful things that God has blessed us with is relationships. God is a relational God and relationships are important to Him. It’s obvious how much He values our relationship with Him because of the price that He paid to restore the relationship that was shattered when our ancestors, Adam and Eve, brought sin into the world through their disobedience. From that moment on, mankind was in a broken relationship with their Creator, which did not bode well for anyone. What was meant to be an incredible and indescribable life experience became one fraught with pain, sorrow and danger. Thankfully, the Lord never abandoned His creation and had a plan all along to save the people that He created and that He loved.

Now that the Messiah, Jesus, has already come to free us from our sins by paying the penalty that was owed, our relationship with our Heavenly Father has been restored. But not everyone has taken advantage of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. In fact, the majority of people in this world have not taken Jesus up on His offer for eternal life. But the remnant that has received Jesus as Lord and Savior does have eternal life and a relationship with their Creator. But the question is, how well do each of us know our Heavenly Father? Unfortunately and especially in America, there are many believers that have not taken advantage of knowing this amazing and loving God that did everything to restore us to Himself. Many are satisfied with just a sprinkling of religion in their lives to appease their guilt and continue to live their lives as they see fit. Whether that is enough to get them to heaven or not only God knows, but I certainly am not taking any chances.

Besides all of that, knowing God is the most awesome pursuit that you can have. Having the opportunity to get to know our Creator intimately is a treasure beyond anything else that is of any worth. It is beyond pleasurable to know and have a real relationship with God. The Bible tells us that there is fullness of joy in God’s presence, which is something that is hard to imagine. We know joy at times, but the fullness of it is glorious and will only be known when we see Jesus face to face. But for those of us that do know Jesus and have an intimate relationship with Him, we should know that we are only scratching the surface. No matter how well you think you know Him, there is still so much more to know. That’s why the Apostle Paul prayed for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to be given to the Christians in the Church at Ephesus. That prayer is also for us today. God is so, rich, so deep and so beyond our understanding that we need His help (His Spirit of wisdom and revelation) so that we can even begin to know Him better. There is always better and there is always more to know when it comes to God. Let’s keep pray and seeking the Lord more and more to know Him more and more so that we can help others to know Him better. There is nothing more important in this life than knowing Jesus and nothing as glorious as knowing Him better!
